Maryland youth behavioral health
Support for your child’s growth — at home, in school, and in the community.
Akili Institute is a mission-driven team supporting youth ages 8–17 and their families. We coordinate care across your child’s whole world — home, school, and community — so the people around them work together, not in silos. We stay with your family over time, helping your child build real skills at a steady, honest pace.

Who we serve
Youth ages 8–17
Young people working through behavioral, emotional, or social challenges — and the families who support them. Families are partners from day one — a parent or guardian gets things started.
Where support happens
In the places youth already live and learn — at home, in school, and across the community. We connect the people in your child’s life so support stays consistent, not scattered.
One coordinated team
We help your family, your child’s school, and community providers stay on the same page — with your consent — so nothing falls through the cracks as things change.
Our services
Skill-building that meets your youth where they are.
Our team works alongside your youth — and your family — on five everyday skills. Together they add up to a personalized Life Game Plan: a practical roadmap built around your child’s own goals and revisited over time as they grow. We focus on real, steady progress — never promises.
Communication
Expressing needs, listening, and building healthy relationships.
Critical Thinking
Working through problems and making thoughtful decisions.
Consistency
Building routines and follow-through that hold up day to day.
Self-Awareness
Understanding emotions and recognizing personal strengths.
Goal Setting
Setting real goals and taking steady steps toward them.
→ A personalized Life Game Plan
The five skills come together in one plan, tailored to your youth and reviewed as they grow.

For referral partners
Counselors, pediatricians, caseworkers, and agencies: referring a young person to us is simple. We handle intake and eligibility, coordinate care around the youth, and — with the family’s consent — keep you informed as things progress. You’ll have a reliable partner, not a handoff into the unknown.
Insurance & cost
We accept Maryland Medicaid. For eligible families, there is typically no cost for covered services. If you’re unsure about coverage, reach out — we’ll help you understand your options.

We’re a mission-driven team, and we hold ourselves to the standards this work demands. Our services are delivered by credentialed clinicians and trained staff. Where substance-use disorder services apply, those records receive heightened confidentiality protections under 42 CFR Part 2. Youth mental-health services launch first; this page describes services as they are offered.
